Artist's Description

My Picasso Le Reve, 2012. This is my version of Le Reve painting by Pablo Picasso and my very first copy of any famous painting of this kind. I just wanted to see what people's take on famous paintings and whether I can achieve something close enough to someone else's work that can be appreciated by an art collector or any individual with taste for famous paintings. What do you think? Have I done a good job here?

I am the mother of my paintings...

Each painting is like a new baby to me, I have emotional attachment to each of my work and find it hard when I sell a piece.  It sounds silly I know, because the reason why my work are for sale is so that I can sell them but when they do, I do feel a sense of loss.  Don't get me wrong, I'm pleased that my work sells and goes to a new home where they will appreciate something I've created but at the same time I feel like there's a void that I need to fill once a painting is sold.  I immediately start painting another one to replace the one that is sold and form an emotional bond with the new painting and the process starts once again.  I often wondered if other artists are like me, whether they also have an emotional bond to their work.  It is understandable why artists would feel this way, after all we are creative people and we are ruled by our emotions.  I enjoy painting when I'm sad, there's something in dark mood and creativity isn't there?  That's not to say that I don't enjoy painting when I'm happy but certainly my dark, unhappy days brought many of my lovely paintings.

Creative Minds by Kumi Rajagopal 24/10/12

I often wonder whether I am actually creative or I try to be for the sake of wanting to be creative.  Why do I paint?  Why do I write?  Why do I design jewellery?  What is my main drive to do all these things?  Is it money? Is it praise?  Is it because I have lots of time on my hand and I want to do something with my life?  Well, it could be all of these things but the reason why I want to be creative is because of the way it makes me feel when I get praised or sell a piece.  Unlike any other job you may do in life, when you create something others appreciate, the feeling of achievement makes me feel successful in life.  There's nothing like it and it helps me carry on painting, writing, designing or whatever the next creative idea my mind will come up with.  It makes me feel alive and you make me feel that way ;o)
