I am a completely self-taught photographer. I have never had any formal training & I actually love that. For me, I simply shoot what I see, but more importantly what I feel. The love I have for "my city" is unconditional. Much of my work is urban, but a lot of it speaks as a personal diary as well. If I am having a bad day, I shoot it. I take self-portraits of myself and that helps purge out my pain. It's actually very therapeutic for me. My work is raw. It's real. It's just a brutally honest perspective of a 38 year old woman who is living life in the city of her dreams, and trying to deal with day to day struggles by pouring it out through her art. Shelly Kay currently lives in Manhattan, New York.
